Snyder Adds The Joker to Justice League

Today, Zack Snyder shared some exclusive pictures with Vanity Fair of Jared Leto as The Joker in the upcoming Snyder Cut of Justice League and they're startling.
Startling because the Leto Joker doesn't look anything like the Joker we saw in Suicide Squad. In fact, the look is closer to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, than to himself in Ayer's vision of the character.
Gone are the elements of the circus Joker, the flash, the gold teeth, the facial tattoos; he's clearly still damaged, but not on his forehead.
Who is The Joker in Snyder's vision? We don't know yet. We do know that he wasn't in Snyder's original plan for the film.

"The Joker is really the only thing that I thought of in retrospect," Snyder told Vanity Fair in an exclusive interview. "But I will say that it was always my intention to bring Joker into that world."
Which suggests that Snyder saw an opportunity and he jumped at it.
After all, if the rumours are true that his cut of the film will be in the four-hour range, there's plenty of room to add b stories that wouldn't have made a theatrical cut. He's being given a ton of leeway (and money) to make the movie his way; and it's taking advantage.
Is The Joker imprisoned? Why is he wearing those creepy gloves and labcoat (or butcher's smock, depending on your point of view.) For fans of Sndyer's grim vision of the DCU lots of questions will be answered in just a few short weeks.
