Gina Carano Out of Star Wars

Gina Carano, who played dropper Cara Dune in two seasons of The Mandalorian, is done with Star Wars; and likely for good. The actor who has a history of controversial statements has been trending on Twitter after a post on Instagram (since deleted) compared holding political views to being Jewish in Nazi Germany.

This follows other controversial posts on a variety of topics including Covid-19 and Black Lives Matter, just to name a few.

In a statement from Lucasfilm made to i09, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

It was widely expected that Cara Dune would play a major role in one of the many spin-off series announced by Lucasfilm for Disney+.

Calls for her ouster have been ebbing and flowing over the past months on social media, but her post about Nazi Germany seems to have been the last straw for Lucasfilm.

Carano's presence in the Disney+ universe wasn't ever confirmed (or assured, to be fair) but given at least four shows will connect to The Mandalorian's timeline, it's hard to imagine they wouldn't have included her, given the size of her role in that show.

Lucasfilm stuck with her for longer than many expected given the backlash against her comments, but like the Skywalker saga, that's done.
