Deadpool 3 to be Rated R

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

In an interview with Collider, Kevin Feige confirmed that Deadpool 3 is going to appear in the MCU continuity (likely with some playful jabs at Fox) and will star Ryan Reynolds.

All of these things will allow fans of Reynolds' caustic Merc' with a Mouth a deep sigh of relief, but there is a tinge of hesitation since Feige also confirmed that Deadpool 3 will "not be [filming] this year," though according to Feige "Ryan's overseeing a script right now."

So the project is in active development at least, which is something.

But when is it coming out? That's the question. Let's undertake some intense mathematical calculations and astrological consultations to figure out when we'll see Deadpool ride again.

We know that the movie won't film at the earliest until 2022, so realistically we could see the movie early Q4, perhaps October/November/December if they started filming early in the year. Black Panther 2 was originally scheduled for May 2022, but a full rewrite of the script is incoming because of the untimely death of Chadwick Boseman.

Even if Deadpool 3 finished filming by May, it's unlikely that the movie will be out of post production to make that release date...but...Captain Marvel 2 is scheduled for release on November 11th, 2022. If they juggled the schedule, and moved the Brie Larson vehicle up to mid-summer, Deadpool 3 could fit in the fall of 2022. It's more likely to drop sometime in 2023, as that schedule is certainly less fixed than the previous year, but fall 2022 could fit.

There's one big caveat to all of this, though: mutants.

How will they be introduced into the MCU? They don't exist yet. The rumour is that they'll appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as an effect of Thanos' snap but we just don't know. It's part of a wider question, but it does seem certain that Deadpool 3 will likely be the first mutant-led vehicle in the MCU.

But until Marvel introduces them, it's all just speculation; but that's half the fun, isn't it?
